Henide gallery was founded by Joseph de Leon in 1932. From the outset, it was an art gallery which, in time, gave birth to today's ancient rugs gallery.
Its founder was then 24 and the enterprise was soaring when World War II slackened activity all over the world. Yet, with the dynamic, talented Joseph de Léon at its head, the gallery was soon to rank among the first Parisian rugs galleries.
An active member of the "Chambre Syndical" of his corporation, Joseph de Léon was reputed for his connoisseur expertise and was appointed "Expert aux Douanes" in 1962. At that time, his son Albert Robert joined in the fatherly enterprise.
The team thus constituted was to publish "Le Guide en Couleurs du Tapis" (A Colored Oriental Rug Guide) in 1967. With 24,000 copies sold, its audience was international, and the Gallery fame was no longer to be made.
Albert Robert de Léon was appointed "Expert près la Cour d'Appel de Paris" in 1970, then "Expert aux Douanes" (Customs expert) in 1971, and became the gallery manager in 1980.
Besides priceless museum pieces, the gallery owns less rare, accessible, rugs yet very carefully selected. Actually, the gallery's specificity is its ancient specimens characterized by their splendid, intense natural hues.
The art lover may find here admirable rugs at quite reasonable prices. |
